Ellen Jong created GIRL cap in NYC in 2015. It started as an edition of 10 as gifts to her friends for the holidays. The following winter she got a request to make a special edition gray on gray for a friend who wanted to gift them to her friends. Eventually, caps got seen, traded, passed along, gifted and soon there was a small request for them mostly in NY and in the art world.
GIRL cap is like a love letter to her younger self. It is ironic that "GIRL cap" advocates for women, girls and those lesser heard or understood - so that there is no girl cap.
